Antigua Guatemala is one of the most beautiful destination wedding locations in Central America. Colonial architecture, candlelit ruins, flower-filled courtyards and three volcanoes on the horizon. As a wedding photographer in Antigua Guatemala, I've put together this guide to help you choose a venue and plan your wedding photos.
I'm Anya from Bluuue Love Photography. I photograph weddings, elopements and proposals in Antigua, at Lake Atitlán and across Central America.
Casa Santo Domingo
A former 16th-century convent turned into a hotel and museum. Stone ruins, candlelit corridors, gardens and a chapel make it one of the most iconic wedding venues in Guatemala. It's ideal for elegant, classic weddings with a strong sense of history.
Best for: large weddings
Santo Domingo del Cerro
Located on a hill above the city, with panoramic views of Antigua and Volcán de Agua. Gardens, art installations and open terraces make it perfect for sunset ceremonies and couple portraits with a view.
Best for: outdoor ceremonies, sunset photos, volcano views
Villa Bokéh
A romantic garden venue with ruins, lush greenery and plenty of space for both ceremony and reception. The light in the gardens is soft and beautiful for portraits.
Best for: garden weddings, boho and romantic styles
Boutique hotels in the city center
Hotels like El Convento and Palacio de Doña Leonor offer intimate courtyards, fountains and colonial details. They work beautifully for smaller weddings and elopements, and you're steps away from the streets for couple photos.
Best for: intimate weddings, elopements, easy access to city photo spots
Photo spots for your couple portraits
Many couples take time during the wedding day, or the morning after, for portraits around town. The Santa Catalina Arch, the yellow La Merced church, cobblestone side streets and colonial ruins are the most popular. At sunrise, these places are almost empty.
Timing your wedding photos
The best light in Antigua is early morning and the hour before sunset. I recommend planning ceremonies about 1.5–2 hours before sunset, so couple portraits fall in golden hour. Midday sun is strong and harsh, so shaded courtyards work best at that time.
Wedding photography, video and drone
Bluuue Love Photography offers wedding photography, videography and FPV drone footage. Drone shots over the rooftops and volcanoes add a cinematic touch to your wedding film. Drone use depends on the venue and permissions, so we plan it in advance.
