Couple Photoshoot in Antigua Guatemala: The Best Locations
Antigua is one of the most photogenic cities in Central America. Colonial streets, colorful walls, church ruins and three volcanoes on the horizon. If you are planning a couple photoshoot in Antigua Guatemala, this guide will help you choose where to shoot and when.
I'm Anya from Bluuue Love Photography. I photograph couples, engagements and proposals in Antigua and at Lake Atitlán. These are the places I recommend most.
1. Santa Catalina Arch (Arco de Santa Catalina)
The most iconic spot in Antigua, with Volcán de Agua behind it on clear days. It is also the busiest. Come at sunrise, when the street is almost empty and the light is soft. After 8–9 am it fills up with tourists and cars.

2. La Merced Church
A bright yellow church with detailed white plaster decoration, a short walk from the arch. The warm color reflects beautifully on skin, making it one of the most flattering backdrops in the city. Easy to combine with the arch in one session.
Best time: early morning or late afternoon

3. Colonial ruins
Antigua was damaged by earthquakes many times, and the ruins of convents and churches are now some of the most atmospheric places in town. Stone arches, open ceilings, moss and flowers. Popular choices include Las Capuchinas, Santa Clara and San Francisco. Most charge an entry fee, and some require permission for professional photos. Your photographer should arrange this in advance.

4. Cerro de la Cruz
A viewpoint above the city with a large stone cross, red rooftops below and Volcán de Agua in the background. The walk up takes around 15–20 minutes. It's the best place to get the whole city in one frame.

5. Cobblestone streets and colorful walls
Some of the best photos happen between the famous spots. Quiet side streets, painted doors and bougainvillea make natural backdrops. I always leave time to simply walk and shoot along the way.

6. Hotels and private venues
Many boutique hotels in Antigua have courtyards, fountains, gardens and even their own ruins. Casa Santo Domingo is the best-known example. A hotel session is a great option if you want privacy or if it rains.

How many locations can we visit?
In a 1–2 hour session you can comfortably visit 2–3 locations. A popular route is sunrise at the arch, then La Merced, then a ruin or quiet streets. For sunset sessions, I often end at Cerro de la Cruz.
